March 2020, the world went into a spin….. New Zealand was put into a 5 week lockdown, no shopping, no working, no biking and boating, no friends and family visits. The only thing to entertain ourselves was a project!

We saw many different options of balance bikes overseas and thought what a great opportunity to spend close to 30 hours designing a balance bike on CAD to entertain ourselves during lockdown!

Thanks to a family member and his CNC machine we had ourselves a real life kitset all pre-drilled and ready to go! Easy…..not quite!

After two weeks of sanding, spraying and turning our garage into a balance bike production line we can confirm that we both became obsessed and so did our friends and family!!!

Life after lockdown went back to normal however the amount of people requesting one of our balance bikes to be made was massive! Custom Cafe Bikes was created and a sample was developed to be put into full production…. Now 16 months later its time for premium to meet playful as the first container has arrived in NZ.
